Will I Need Liposuction After Gastric Bypass Surgery?

July 26, 2016 by Lonnie Jones

Gastric Bypass Surgery is one of the most common procedures commonly used to produce excessive weight loss in a very short period of time. The idea behind it is to make your stomach smaller, which in turn then means you can absorb fewer calories. It then helps you to lose weight, because your appetite diminishes, and consequently your body will not absorb so many calories. In a lot of situations, people lose somewhere in the region of 65 percent of their body weight within a 2-year period after the procedure.

The other significant benefit of gastric bypass is that the benefits can last for up to ten years, depending of course on sensible diet and exercise regimes. There are very few negatives to this operation but one thing to be aware of is that with such drastic and rapid weight loss there is likely to be excess skin and this is where liposuction can become beneficial. However, it is only fair to point out that there may have to be other procedures including excess skin removal as well.

Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure, that effectively sucks out extra fat from inside the body. If you have recently had Gastric Bypass liposuction after gastric bypasssurgery or are contemplating the procedure for health or even diabetic reasons, then it makes sense for you consider Liposuction as the second part of the gastric band process. For those of us who have been excessively overweight for a significant period of time, the invariable result will be that your skin is stretched. Even after the Gastric Bypass Surgery, there will still be excess fat remaining in certain parts of your body and this is where liposuction can really help. Depending on the scale of the problem, there may even be the need to have some of the excess skin removed as well, but for the purposes of this article, we will just discuss liposuction.

One of the main benefits of Liposuction is that it can be very targeted. So if specifically want to lose weight from your buttocks, or your stomach area, then Liposuction is the perfect solution. The procedure takes between 1 and three hours and in most instances is a day procedure, which means there is no need for an overnight stay in hospital in most cases.

There are various liposuction treatments, depending on the area being treated and also some individual reasons according to each patient and their health conditions. These will all be discussed with you and the options provided when you have your initial consultation with the surgeon. There are even specialists who perform liposuction for men that can help put you at ease. It is important that you have a full understanding of all the options available so that you can make an informed decision on the path you wish to take.

Whatever your decision, it is certainly worthwhile considering liposuction as a secondary procedure to a Gastric Bypass operation. It will certainly give you a more sculpted body, and in most cases increase your self-confidence.
